Legislation has been introduced in the Michigan House of Representatives to create a “predictive scheduling” mandate on certain employers, including retail, hospitality and/or food services.
As a small business owner with over two decades of experience in the hospitality sector, I am strongly opposed to the proposed "predictive scheduling" legislation in Michigan's House of Representatives. This bill, HB 4035, while seemingly benign in its attempt to safeguard restaurant workers, imposes a rigid 14-day advanced scheduling requirement on employers, including those in retail, hospitality, and food services.
John, a lifelong Michigan resident, was born and raised in Rockford, where he also attended Rockford High School. He went on to graduate from Grand Valley State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business & Information Systems.
His mother, hailing from Walker, completed her education at Kenowa Hills High School before later working as a secretary at an elementary school in Rockford. Meanwhile, his father, originally from Grand Rapids, graduated from Northview High School and dedicated 30 years of his career to General Motors as a Tool and Die Maker in Grand Rapids.
Furthermore, John's great grandfather and grandfather were proud co-owners of a successful tire shop business located in Northeast Grand Rapids.
